Biography

Doris Walkins is asking for your vote for Pierce County Superior Court Judge, Department 9. Doris Walkins is a current Pierce County Superior Court Commissioner overseeing various case types from family law, juvenile criminal law, real estate and probate matters, to involuntary commitment hearings involving some of our most vulnerable community members. Prior to taking the bench, she was the owner and operator of Doris M. Walkins, Attorney at Law, PLLC, a law firm, for over 16 years, practicing in the areas of family, juvenile, dependency, terminations, adoptions, misdemeanor criminal, estate planning and much more. Doris was also a Title 26 guardian ad litem, conducting parenting investigations for hundreds of families in Pierce County. She has been a part of our community for many years and has worked tirelessly to make it a better place for families and children, by helping parents identify and remedy obstacles to healthy parenting. Commissioner Walkins has spent more than 20 years advocating for keeping families safe, and together. She plans to continue that mission as a Superior Court Judge in Pierce County. Doris has deep local roots, having graduated from Pierce College in Lakewood, WA, the University of Washington, Tacoma, and Seattle University School of Law. Prior to starting her career as an attorney, Doris worked as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence at the YWCA of Tacoma and Pierce County, Women’s Support Shelter–there Doris saw first hand the impact that the a strong judicial response can have on the lives and well being of the women and children served by the YWCA shelter, as well as the benefits to alleged perpetrators and their victims, when exposed to therapeutic treatment. Doris is committed to being a judge who will continue to embody the principles of access to justice, fairness in rendering decisions, and prioritizing the safety for our community members.
