Biography

Wendy Berry has proudly served the city of West St. Paul, representing Ward 3on the City Council, since January 2019, becoming the first openly queer person to run for office and the first to ever serve in the role. Among many things they’ve accomplished in their time as an elected official, they are most proud of pushing to be the sixth city in the state of Minnesota to pass a ban on “conversion therapy” for minors, assisting in developing a resident-led equity team to advise the city manager on citywide decisions and policies, and advocating to have city communications available in more than one language. Wendy has always been a firm believer in the importance of representation, especially when it comes to voices that have been historically underrepresented and underserved and works hard on outreach efforts to make sure those voices are hard. She was elected to the Board of Directors for the League of Minnesota Cities and the South Metro Fire Department, sits as the liaison for the Park & Rec Advisory Committee, and participates on several other committees to make West St. Paul a place people are proud to live. Celebrating the diversity of the folks in the city, increasing accessibility with sidewalks and plans for improved public transportation, and doing so while being smart with taxpayer money was what Wendy originally campaigned on, and she has continued to push hard for those issues. They are looking forward to continuing to guide West St. Paul in its current direction and working with residents across the city to do that for four more years
