Cathy Woolard became the first openly LGBT elected official in Georgia when she was elected to the Atlanta City Council in 1997. She went on to serve as the District 6 representative on the Atlanta City Council and later the City Council President until 2004. For the past 25 years, Cathy has worked as a consultant and lobbyist for organizations like Georgia Equality and Planned Parenthood since she exited office. In her consulting work, Cathy has helped organizations build their membership, grow their political clout, and achieve their goals through strategic planning, community mobilization, and advocacy. Cathy and her partner of 28 years, Karen Geney, live in Glenwood Park.
