Biography

Emily is running for Congress in the district where she grew up. She comes from a family of public servants, committed to their friends and neighbors. Emily’s family instilled in her a sense of optimism, of love of country and of community, even in the face of hardship. As a queer woman of color, she inspired to bring an intersectional lens to the issues she cares deeply about – from women’s health and reproductive justice, to LGBTQ equality and environmental justice – voices often left out of policy conversations, and ones that we need if we intend to truly work toward justice, fairness, and equality. The night Donald Trump was elected president, Emily decided to step up and run for State Senate— everything she had worked for was under attack. She organized a grassroots campaign to successfully flip a Republican state senate seat and help Democrats win control of state government. Now Emily is serving in Congress because everything she accomplished at home is under threat by MAGA extremists.
