Biography

Kim Ahern is a mother, wife, and attorney who has built a career keeping Rhode Islanders safe and protecting our fundamental rights. A trusted prosecutor for nine years, Kim served as a Special Assistant Attorney General under Rhode Island’s past three attorneys general – Peter Neronha, Peter Kilmartin, and Patrick Lynch – where she handled more than 1,000 cases in what is now the Special Victims Unit and specialized in domestic violence and assault cases. She also served as a representative to the Rhode Island Commission on Prejudice and Bias and worked on hate crimes, civil rights, and training for police departments statewide. Kim later became a senior advisor to Governors Gina Raimondo and Dan McKee, advising on juvenile justice reform, reentry, housing, and other major policy issues. During COVID-19, she helped lead efforts to provide food, housing, and essential support to vulnerable Rhode Islanders. Most recently, Kim served as the first Chairperson of the Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission, building a new agency and overseeing safe, transparent, and equitable cannabis regulation. An avid runner and triathlete, a devoted Girl Scout leader, and a proud mama, Kim lives in Providence with her wife Jenna and their three daughters.
