Amber Fellows

Mayor of Ypsilanti, Ward 3

Amber will be the first genderqueer Mayor of Ypsilanti

Biography

Amber Fellows is a multi-decade resident, 43 years old, first-generation Japanese-American, queer, musician, and community organizer who defeated an appointed incumbent Democrat by 10 votes in August 2024. A proven grassroots strategist who has mounted successful campaigns to stop the sale of 4 public lands to an EB-5 visa scheme, pass the second Community Benefits Ordinance in the country, and win charter amendments democratizing city commission appointments by a 77% popular vote, Amber has since taken office to lead the council in joining Mayors for Peace, imposing a year-long moratorium on the Los Alamos/UM AI data center, calling on Congress to defund and abolish ICE, and spearheading both the Water Street Citizen’s and Tenants’ Rights Committees to fight landlord monopolies. When not organizing, Amber plays with music and plants, seeks out old-growth forests, and hosts DIY events in and around Ypsilanti.
