Biography

In 2018, CM became the first out queer person elected to the Newport City Council, happily-endorsed by Victory Fund (and others). She manages careers in the fields of interpreting grant administration and teaching. She is a nationally‐certified sign language interpreter and is co-director for the DeafBlind Interpreting National Training and Resource Center. CM teaches LGBTQ Studies courses at Western Oregon University. She has a professional background in fundraising and organizing for LGBTQ civil rights organizations and has worked in the labor movement and for many political campaigns. She is also the former chair for the Basic Rights Oregon Equality PAC and produces an annual Coming Out Monologues storytelling event for the Basic Rights Oregon Equality PAC which works to fund and elect pro-LGBTQ candidates running for office. She currently serves as chair of Emerge Oregon.
