Biography
Rep. Deb Butler has represented New Hanover County’s District 18 in the NC House of Representatives since 2017, and has won re-election in four subsequent contests. Having served as Democratic Whip from 2019-2022, today Rep. Butler is a member of the Progressive House Caucus and has been the primary sponsor of over two dozen bills since taking office. She currently serves on the Agriculture and Environment, Finance, Judiciary 2, Transportation, and Wildlife Resources Committees for the 2025-2026 session. Rep. Butler graduated with a BA from the Univ. of Tennessee, Knoxville, and received her JD from Wake Forest University School of Law. She lives in Wilmington with her wife, Isabela Lujan, and their two happy pups.
