Biography
Born and raised in California, Dion Manley moved to Ohio in 2006. He ran for school board in 2021 to support public school educators and staff plus show appreciation for his daughter’s love of learning. He believes now is the time for everyone to step up in some meaningful way to work for social justice in this ever-changing world. Dion became the first out transperson elected to public office in Ohio and made national news as the fifth out transman elected to office in the United States. He was sworn into office on January 6, 2022. The Gahanna-Jefferson school district has over 8000 students and he is proud to work on a team inspiring learners where every student is welcomed, affirmed and respected. He is experienced and ready for the hard work work ahead, saying the milestones we’ve crossed cannot be denied or removed, regardless. Dion has experienced the profound impact true representation has on young people plus those around them and expects LGBTQ+ representation to rise as we continue pushing forward.
