Kevin Garner

Missouri House of Representatives, District 24

Biography

Kevin was raised in a working class family with deep union roots. He is the grandson of immigrants from Mexico, and is a first-generation college graduate, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Kevin began his career as an educator, teaching courses in communication and coaching debate. His desire to advocate for Democratic values led him to Jefferson City to serve as the communications director for Progress Missouri. Kevin worked with Planned Parenthood, unions, PROMO, and other progressive organizations to defeat harmful policies in the Missouri legislature. This gives him the experience and relationships to be ready on Day One. Kevin is now a senior proposal strategist, specializing in government projects, and is a partner at a small business that helps elect Democrats and pass progressive ballot initiatives. Kevin and his husband, Jacob, a U.S. Air Force veteran and public school teacher, live in West Plaza where they serve on the board of the neighborhood association. They enjoy spending time with Dolly, their Poodle mix, adopted from KC Pet Project. Kevin sits on the Public Policy & Advocacy Committee for the MidAmerica LGBT Chamber of Commerce and the PROMO Board. He is also a co-founder of the Midtown Democratic Club of Kansas City.
