Biography
Born in Baltimore City, Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and shaped by both Southern Charm/values and Baltimore’s Grit and spirit, Jamar has devoted his career to empowering young people and the educators who serve them. Jamar discovered his passion for advocacy as a freshman at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, earning his B.A. in History with a concentration in Political Science in 2011. In 2014, he returned to Baltimore to pursue his M.S. in Negotiations and Conflict Management at the University of Baltimore. His approach to leadership is grounded in restorative practices and equitable policymaking, shaped by work with groups like Journey for Justice, Teachers’ Democracy Project, Baltimore Rising, and Leaders of Color–DC. Jamar made a promise to be a voice for his students — inside and outside the classroom. During the 2015 uprising following the death of Freddie Gray, Jamar supported students navigating grief, fear, and systemic injustice. an experience that continues to fuel his mission for change. Jamar’s career spans classrooms, city hall, and the State of Maryland. With over a decade in Maryland government, Jamar knows how to navigate bureaucracy, secure funding, and turn policy ideas into action.
