Jamie will continue to be a voice for equality in the Washington State Senate
Appointed to the Senate in 2013 and elected in 2014 after four terms in the House, Jamie represents the 43rd Legislative District in central Seattle. Jamie currently serves as chair of the Senate Law and Justice Committee, and also sits on the Ways & Means, Early Learning & K-12 Education, and Rules Committees. He is a member of the Legislative Ethics Board, the Office of Civil Legal Aid Oversight Committee, the Office of Public Defense Oversight Committee, the Statute Law Committee, and the Uniform Law Commission. Jamie served as chair of the House Judiciary Committee for five years and during that time was the House prime sponsor of Washington’s marriage equality legislation. He also helped organize the case that struck down Tim Eyman’s 2/3 requirement for raising taxes. Outside of the legislature, Jamie works as Vice President & General Counsel for McKinstry, a Seattle-based construction and engineering firm that specializes in green building. Jamie teaches Sunday School and is treasurer at Central Lutheran Church. He is a cub scout den leader and has sung in the Seattle Men’s Chorus for 22 years. He is a former board co-chair of Lambda Legal and since 2005 has served as the chair of Lambda Legal’s National Leadership Council. Jamie and his husband Eric live on Capitol Hill with their four sons.
