Biography
John Michael Handley moved to Lenexa in summer 2019 with his now-husband Grant and cat Cricket, and he knew quickly that this was home. He grew up with very involved family in rural Kansas, which inspired him to look for ways to give back. In spring 2020, a vacancy opened on the Lenexa Planning Commission, and he leapt at the opportunity–one that intersected his interest in urban planning and desire to contribute. It’s his time on the Planning Commission, almost 5 years, as well as on the 2024 Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, that demonstrate his care for the city. Paired with his professional experience in real estate development, John Michael is uniquely positioned to foster responsible growth in Lenexa, with additional focuses on the excellence of our infrastructure and our parks, trails, and recreational facilities.
