Biography
Councilmember Jonathan Estrada was born and raised in Pasadena, Texas, where he grew up surrounded by his parents and grandparents. His grandparents retired as custodians and maintenance workers from the University of Houston System. His father is a union member, a crane operator, and a driver, while his mother works as a custodian. Councilmember Estrada understands the values of hard work and perseverance, having grown up in a working-class family. He made history as the first in his family to graduate from college. Jonathan is a proud product of Pasadena Independent School District public schools, San Jacinto College, and the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He has dedicated nine years to the City of Houston, where he has advanced to the position of Senior Plan Analyst. In June 2021, he won a runoff election at the age of 29, becoming the first openly gay candidate elected to the Pasadena City Council. During his first term, he concentrated on constituent services and infrastructure improvement in his district. Councilmember Estrada has been actively involved in his community since the age of 22 and is a strong supporter of both the Police Department and city workers. Following a successful first term, he was reelected to the City Council in May 2023 for an additional two years. Jonathan Estrada holds an Associate of Arts in General Studies from San Jacinto Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Public Service Leadership from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
