Josie Caballero

Montgomery County Council, At-Large

Josie will be the first trans official in Maryland history!

Biography

Josie Caballero is a proud Latina, Navy veteran, and public servant running for Montgomery County Council At-Large. Raised in a working-class family by a single mother, a Head Start teacher and bus driver, Josie learned early the value of hard work and community service; values that led her to serve as a nuclear power operator in the U.S. Navy, deploying four times aboard the USS Ronald Reagan.
After her military service, Josie built a career in advocacy and politics, serving as a presidential national delegate, a founding member of the DNC’s Trans Advisory Committee, and as a member of the Maryland Commission on LGBTQIA+ Affairs. She currently works to strengthen democratic participation and representation in the trans community. As a transgender woman, Josie began living openly in 2020, grounded in her belief that everyone deserves the freedom to live authentically and equally under the law. If elected, she would make history as the first openly transgender elected official in Maryland. Josie is running to expand housing, lower costs for working families, protect local jobs, support public schools, welcome immigrant communities, and take bold action on climate change. She lives in Silver Spring with her partner, Katie, and their dog, Annie.
