Biography
Keanuú Smith-Brown is the eldest of six siblings and a first-generation college graduate. He was born in Annapolis, Maryland; his mother, Tameka Smith, raised him and her two sons. She did all she could to provide a roof over their heads, food to eat, clothes to wear, healthcare, and quality education, ingraining in Keanuú an unwavering faith. Keanuú survived histiocytosis (a cancerous disease) at the age of two, after undergoing months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. He shares that the touch of God, the outpouring of love and support from family, and the care from medical professionals led to a remission of more than twenty-five years. Living in subsidized housing, relying on “food stamps,” receiving free and reduced meals in Anne Arundel County Public Schools, having Medicaid, and funding his bachelor’s degree with financial aid shaped Keanuú’s perspective, drawing him closer to public service and an embrace of empathy, compassion, and perseverance. Keanuú remains dedicated to our families, finances, and future. As an educator, a first-generation university graduate, a master’s student, and a visionary leader with over 15 years of experience in community service and political leadership, he understands the impacts that can come from the stroke of a pen.
