Kevin will continue to bring important representation to the Cook County Board of Commissioners!
Kevin Morrison is serving his first term in office. When elected in 2018 he became the first Democrat to represent the district, as well as the youngest and first out LGBTQ Commissioner in county history. The race was seen as a big upset in Illinois, as Kevin unseated the Chair of the Illinois Republican Party.
His chief accomplishments include sponsoring the VOTE Ordinance which expanded language access to the ballot from four to 12 languages, the Residential Tenant and Landlord Ordinance which expanded the protections for 245,000 suburban tenants, and the Gender Inclusive Forms and Documents Ordinance that mandates that on county forms and documents gender identity may only be requested; if sex at birth is necessary for medical, legal, or data collection, the question must include a reasoning as well as a gender identity option.
Kevin also created the Commission on Addressing Equity, Bias, and Cultural Competency. The report of this Commission has led to the hiring of the County’s first Equity Director, a plan for implicit bias training for county staff, and an investment of $100 million dollars in equity projects. The son of a small business owner, Kevin has participated on the Commission on Small Business and Supplier Diversity and the Small Business Working Group. Kevin’s work has led to loan and grant opportunities for businesses during the pandemic, and a One Stop Shop for business resources.
Kevin joined the Victory Fund Board in 2019.
