Biography

Latasha’s journey to running for Tacoma City Council is rooted in her experiences as a queer woman who came out later in life. She has faced personal challenges, including navigating the loss of her children’s father to mental illness, which underscored systemic failures for marginalized communities. This drives her advocacy for systemic change prioritizing empowerment over reliance on unstable federal systems. She champions economic and climate security through sustainable industries, small business support, cooperative models, and worker’s rights, aiming to rebrand Tacoma away from industries that harm the environment. Latasha prioritizes personal security with community-led healing solutions, advocating strongly for housing security, including tenant protections and affordable housing solutions.

With a background in advocating for equity in Tacoma Public Schools and collaborating with organizations like the Hilltop Action Coalition and Aya Community Land Trust, Latasha is committed to amplifying community voices. Her work on Tacoma’s Charter Review Committee provided firsthand insight into systemic challenges and reinforced her dedication to inclusive governance. As a queer woman, mother, organizer, and daughter of a union worker, Latasha brings resilience shaped by her journey from homelessness to earning a degree at Columbia University. She is dedicated to empowered communities, justice, inclusivity, and a thriving future for all.
