Marvin Lim

Georgia House of Representatives, District 99

Marvin will be a leading voice for equality in the Georgia House of Representatives

Marvin Lim, 35, of Norcross, is a civil rights attorney and new Democratic candidate for State Representative, House District 99, which includes Norcross and Lilburn. An immigrant to Atlanta from the Philippines and a former recipient of free public school meals, he ultimately graduated from Yale Law School and Emory University magna cum laude, and is a Fulbright Scholarship recipient.

Currently, Marvin works on gun violence prevention issues with the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence and works on election law and other cases for Holcomb + Ward, LLP, co-led by State Rep. Scott Holcomb (D-81). Formerly, he was Legislative Counsel with the ACLU of Georgia, a Gruber Fellow at the ACLU HQ specializing in religious freedom, LGBT rights, and women’s and reproductive rights, and Counsel with the Brennan Center for Justice. He also volunteers with the Gwinnett Community Emergency Response Team, is a board member of 159 Georgia Together, which promotes civic education and voter registration, and is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Ultimately, he believes that every person – regardless of race, immigration, socioeconomic or other status – retains dignity. Thus, they should have equal opportunity and access to basic human goods, from healthcare to voting to the right to live free from violence.
