Alexis will be an important voice for equality on the Seattle City Council!
Biography
Seattle Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck (Citywide Position 8) is a tireless champion for affordability, access, and opportunity for all. She believes that Seattle neighbors deserve a future with housing affordability regardless of income, communities that are safe for all, fully-funded essential programs, and rights protected against national attacks. That’s why, in her short time in office, Councilmember Rinck has hit the ground running to address these priorities. Recognizing the clear and present danger that LGBTQ+ people, women, immigrants, and other vulnerable communities face, she took the lead in establishing a dedicated Select Committee on Federal Administration and Policy Changes to respond in real time to national attacks. As Chair, Councilmember Rinck will ensure Seattle remains proactive in defending against threats to critical programs, funding, and human rights. Before her election, Alexis previously worked as an Assistant Director shaping fiscal policy analysis and budgeting at the University of Washington, as well as supporting human services and public health for the 38 member cities of the Sound Cities Association, and directing emergency response plans at the Regional Homelessness Authority. A renter, transit rider, and proud UW Evans School graduate because of financial aid, scholarships, and working in restaurants, Alexis’s struggles growing up have helped inform her perspective when finding solutions to Seattle’s challenges and investing in future generations.
