Biography
Alder Mike Verveer was first elected to represent the Fourth Alder District (Madison’s downtown area) on the Madison Common Council in 1995. He has won re-election to the Common Council every two years since and most recently won re-election in 2023.
Verveer previously served as Common Council President and Common Council Vice President for several terms.
He has championed LGBTQ+ issues for decades and successfully sponsored numerous pieces of legislation advancing equality.
Verveer, a practicing attorney, is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School. He served as chief of staff to Tammy Baldwin during her entire tenure in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
