Biography
William Naeger is a trial attorney, housing advocate, and community leader running for City Council in Topeka, Kansas. A lifelong Topekan, he and his sisters were raised to work hard for vulnerable people who otherwise would be without help. That’s why he worked in juvenile mental health, joined Governor Laura Kelly’s Office, and now is a public defender. William is the current Chair of the Topeka Planning Commission. There, he has advocated for cutting unneeded regulations to make safe housing affordable for working families. While speaking with groups like neighborhood associations and home builders, William heard how important issues like access to safe housing, neighborhood character, code enforcement, and property taxes can be. William formerly served on Topeka’s Human Relations Commission. He spearheaded the Commission’s successful efforts to outlaw discrimination in housing and employment on the basis of veteran status, sexual orientation, and gender identity. William Naeger wants a city government that listens first and then gets the work done. He is determined to make Topeka a place where anyone can build a happy, healthy, and safe life.
