Jesus will be the first and only out LGBTQ+ member of the Katy ISD School Board!
Biography
Jesus Nieto is a community organizer and union member running to represent the working-class in Katy ISD, Position 5. Coming from a family of teachers, he understands that providing a quality education is more than just throwing money at the problem. He has spent the last few years advocating for public school funding, fighting against book bans, student censorship, and having the Ten Commandments displayed in school. Jesus believes that a school district needs a strong advocate and someone who understands what students and teachers need in and out of the classroom. As a former student success coach, Jesus applied evidence-based instructional strategies that supported first-generation college students in passing their first semester of college, strengthening the retention rate at the University of Houston-Downtown. In addition, Jesus provided critical support services to students who were facing food insecurity, homelessness, or mental health challenges. When Jesus gets elected, he’s going to fight for the issues that the community cares about: community and parent involvement, proper teacher compensation, allowing teachers to teach, and an unrelenting focus on student success and outcomes.
