Biography
Matt Plourd is a proud UConn graduate, a legislative staffer, and the youngest-ever member of the Newington Town Council, running for reelection. Raised in Newington, just a few blocks from where his dad grew up, Matt has deep roots in the community he now serves. He first found his voice leading a high school walkout against gun violence and went on to organize climate action as Director of Sunrise Movement CT.
Here at home, he founded the Newington Youth Coalition and has co-founded Newington. Pride to empower and protect the dignity of LGBTQIA+ people. On the Council, Matt brings a pragmatic and values-driven approach to leadership – listening first, building trust, and working to deliver common-sense solutions that bring people together. He’s been a champion for good government reforms that protect tax dollars and strengthen oversight, stood up for grassroots approaches to development, and fought for new investments to support schools and social services. Matt knows that for Newington to stay a place where seniors, young people, and working families can thrive, government must be willing to step up in bold ways to expand opportunity, improve affordability, and defend the dignity of every resident – and, deliver real material results.
