Illapa will be the first out LGBTQ person of color elected to the New York State Assembly!
Illapa is a climate organizer and the son of Peruvian immigrants. He’s lived in the same apartment of Lower Manhattan for 9 years and he works as a mental health social worker. He’s been a leader in the fight to build public renewables in New York State and has fought against building new fossil fuel plants and pipelines.
Illapa is running in a district that encompasses some of the last working-class neighborhoods in Manhattan. He would be the first openly gay person of color ever elected to the New York State Assembly.
