Sara will continue to be the first and only out LGBTQ Latina elected to the bench in Dallas County!
Sara Martínez was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. As the daughter of migrant farm workers, she learned the value of hard work and the importance of education as a pathway to success. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chicana/o Studies from Loyola Marymount University and a Juris Doctorate from the University Of Southern California School Of Law.
She serves as Justice of the Peace Precinct 5, Place 1, in Dallas County and was elected in 2014 running as an out LGBTQ candidate. She presides over criminal, civil, eviction and debt matters. Prior to her election, Judge Martínez ran a successful solo law practice in the areas of criminal and family law and served as a Dallas County Public Defender.
Sara maintains an active presence in the community and was recognized for her efforts with the “Emerging Leader” award by the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as well as being inducted into the DFW Hispanic 100 organization. Her belief in creating a more just and socially humane world, guides her daily life.
