Janelle Sarauw

Janelle K. Sarauw is a former three term Senator of the U.S. Virgin Islands, educator, policy expert, and lifelong advocate for the people of the Virgin Islands. Born and raised on St. Thomas, she is a proud product of the Virgin Islands public school system and a graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School.

She holds bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Interdisciplinary Studies of Social Science, a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership, and is completing her PhD in Leadership Studies with an anticipated graduation in December 2026.

Before serving three consecutive terms in the Legislature, Janelle taught U.S. History, served as Chief Researcher and Special Projects Director in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, and later taught Political Science at the University of the Virgin Islands.

Recognized for her preparation, principled leadership, and commitment to accountability, she has championed healthcare, equal rights, disaster recovery, environmental protection, and government transparency. Janelle remains dedicated to ensuring the Virgin Islands is heard, respected, and fully represented.

If elected, Janelle will make history as the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to represent the U.S. Virgin Islands in Congress.
