Anthony is the only LGBTQ+ member of the City Council, and only the 3rd openly gay councilmember elected in San José!
Biography
Anthony was raised in a working-class home in Washington State. Growing up, Anthony’s dad struggled with chronic illness, so Anthony learned firsthand the importance of a government that works for working families. Thanks to the power of social safety net programs and quality public schools, Anthony became the first person in his family to graduate college, earning a B.S. from Yale in 2014. Anthony and his husband Giovanni settled down in San José in 2018. Prior to serving on City Council, Anthony managed an engineering team at YouTube, and his decade of experience in the private sector taught him the importance of leading with innovative ideas, data-driven decisions, and accountability. Anthony is a fierce advocate in the fight for housing affordability. In 2022, Anthony was appointed to the San José Planning Commission, where he quickly gained a reputation for his preparedness and ability to get into the weeds on policy. After just a year of service, Anthony was elected to serve as the first openly gay Chair in the commission’s history. In 2025, Anthony was elected to the San José City Council with an overwhelming 64% of the vote, becoming the third-ever openly gay member of the council.
