Anthony will be the only LGBTQ+ member of the City Council, and only the 3rd openly gay councilmember elected in San José!
Biography
Anthony was born and raised in a working-class home in Washington State. Growing up, Anthony’s dad struggled with chronic illness, so Anthony learned firsthand the importance of a government that works for working families. Thanks to the power of social safety net programs and quality public schools, Anthony became the first person in his family to go to college, earning a Bachelor of Science from Yale University in 2014. Anthony and his husband Giovanni settled down in San José in 2018. Anthony currently manages an engineering team at YouTube, and his decade of experience in the private sector has taught him that effective leadership relies on a combination of innovative ideas, data-driven decisions, and accountability. Anthony is a fierce advocate in the fight for housing affordability. In 2022, Anthony was appointed to the San José Planning Commission, where he quickly gained a reputation for his preparedness and ability to get into the weeds of policy. He was instrumental in helping San José achieve a compliant Housing Element and has worked tirelessly to advocate for policies to improve affordability, prevent displacement, and pave the way for tens of thousands of new homes. After just a single year on the commission, Anthony was elected by his fellow commissioners to serve as Chair for the 2024-2025 term, becoming the first openly gay Chair in the commission’s history. Anthony is ready to bring a fresh approach to City Hall as he fights to build a safer, more affordable, and more vibrant San José for all.
