Biography
V Fixmer-Oraiz (They/Them) was elected in 2022 to the Johnson County Board of Supervisors and is the first transgender, Queer, Bi-racial county supervisor in Iowa. They have lived in Johnson County for over a decade and in that time graduated with a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa and started their own environmental and community planning firm, Astig Planning. During their tenure as a Supervisor, they led the creation of the Johnson County Transgender Advisory Committee, worked with the Johnson County Attorney’s Office to update the county’s Human Rights Ordinance, and fought alongside manufactured home residents to stand up to out-of-state park owners. They serve on several boards and committees that impact resident’s lives, such as the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee, the East Central Wirkforce Development Board, and the Economic Develoment committee. They live in Iowa City with their wife of 21 years and two young children. In their free time they enjoy hiking and biking around the county, and stealing away to get lost in a good book!
