Biography
Drake is an engineer and a housing advocate with 10 years of organizing experience. As the only LGBTQ+ candidate in the race, and the son of two gay mothers who left the rural south to find safety and acceptance, he understands the need to keep Cook County safe for everyone who calls it home now, and everyone who needs to come here to find safety. Before his engineering career, Drake worked hourly jobs as a groundskeeper, cashier, and food server. He’s running because he understands the need to keep Chicago affordable, and he’s ready to build a new generation of leaders to end machine politics and make the Democratic party serve the working class. Drake envisions a city where working people and families can afford to stay, and where an open and ethical government invests in thriving communities. He believes Chicagoans should enjoy a low cost of living and a high quality of life.
