Kathe Welch

Kathe Welch is a retired middle and high school art teacher, running for the Gaston school board. She spent 15 years in the classroom teaching around 3000 students from all backgrounds. Kathe believes that providing a well-rounded education, fully funding our schools, and moving beyond test scores are immediate needs and that the arts and athletics are as important to a child’s development as math, reading and science. She believes that fully funding schools with sufficient teaching and support staff and a fully-staffed library program is critical. This will help students increase their skills in both reading and math and increase their knowledge of history and science with a focus on critical thinking skills rather than testing skills.
