Biography

Aime Wichtendahl is the first openly transwoman elected to government in the state of Iowa, being elected to the Hiawatha City Council in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 and 2023 without opposition. In 2024, she became the first transwoman elected to the Iowa General Assembly, winning a seat for District 80 in the Iowa House of Representatives. During the 2025 session, she fought passionately against the GOP’s efforts to repeal gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Act. Currently, she serves on the House Ways & Means, Judiciary, Veterans, and Local Government Committees. She is the ranking member of the Technology, Workforce, and Economic Development Committee.
