Biography

Carl Wilson is running for New York City Council because the West Side of Manhattan deserves fresh, capable leadership. District 3 is not just where Carl lives; it is where he found his home, community, and purpose. In 2009, Carl moved to New York City to pursue acting and to find community. He found that in the heart of NYC’s LGBTQ+ civil rights movement. After the 2016 presidential election, Carl felt a calling to serve his community. He co-founded the Hell’s Kitchen Democrats, which built a true grassroots and progressive home on the West Side. They challenged the entrenched political power of the McManus machine, and won. As Chief of Staff to Council Member Erik Bottcher, Carl helped deliver real results for New Yorkers. He has worked closely with the corresponding staff and elected officials on the budgeting process. He helped pass landmark environmental protections, gun violence prevention legislation, and major housing initiatives that are making our city fairer, safer, and more affordable. Carl has worked every day alongside tenants, nonprofit providers, advocates, and community leaders to solve real problems on the ground. Carl has the experience, connections, support, and passion needed to represent the West Side.
