Our Atlanta candidates Cathy Woolard, running for Mayor, and Alex Wan, running for City Council President, just received high rankings from City for a Better Atlanta (CBA). Cathy received a ranking of 94 — considered “excellent” — in the mayoral category, and Alex came in first place for the city council category, with a ranking of 96 (also considered excellent). The criteria for these rankings is based on their commitment to public safety, financial competence, ethics/transparency, transportation, affordable housing and the arts. The CBA rankings are considered extremely influential among Atlanta’s business community.
“I am honored to again receive this acknowledgment from the CBA, a group of respected members of Atlanta’s business community and civic leaders who recognize the need for thoughtful, business-minded leaders engaged in City government, and I am ready to bring together all of Atlanta’s diverse stakeholders to get things done and keep Atlanta moving forward,” Wan said.
In 2009, Alex was the first Asian American and openly gay man to serve on the Atlanta City Council back when he joined in 2009. Cathy was the first openly LGBTQ person ever elected in Georgia when she joined the Atlanta City Council — and would become the first openly LGBTQ mayor of a major Southern city if elected.
