Former DC councilmember Jim Graham passes away

Former District of Columbia city councilmember and early Victory Fund endorsee Jim Graham passed away on Sunday. He was 71 years old. Victory Fund President & CEO Aisha C. Moodie-Mills released the following statement:

“Today we mourn the passing of early Victory Fund candidate and former DC city councilmember Jim Graham. When elected to the council, Jim was one of the few out LGBTQ city councilmembers of a major U.S. city, and throughout his four terms proved representation is power. He became a fierce advocate for equality on the council – strengthening discrimination protections, securing marriage equality and providing desperately needed resources to trans youth. Jim’s presence on the council ensured the betterment of LGBTQ lives was always on the agenda, and District residents continue to benefit from his contributions.”
