In a recent Seattle Times article detailing the current state of the city’s mayoral race, Victory Fund-endorsed candidate Jenny Durkan is besting her opponent in donations and campaign momentum. Independent expenditures on behalf of Jenny heavily outweigh Cary Moon’s, with $494,500 in recent spending on cable and broadcast television ads for Jenny, compared to just $25,000 for Moon.
Additionally, Cary’s campaign is over $60,000 in debt, according to a state Public Disclosure Commission summary. This contrasts with Jenny’s success, fundraising $865,000 from more than 3,600 contributors. The fundraising and spending differences emphasizes the excitement gap between Jenny and Moon’s campaigns.
Jenny is roaring and ready to go for election day on November 7 — and Victory Fund is working hard to help her cross the finish line. Jenny would become the first openly lesbian mayor of Seattle, and just one of two openly lesbian mayors of major U.S. cities.
