Liliana Bakhtiari, running for Atlanta City Council, District 5, outraised her opponent yet again. Over 1400 community members individually donated to Liliana’s campaign, raising $24,000 more than the incumbent.
Liliana is running to be the first openly LGBTQ Muslim ever elected in the country. She has brought her previous experiences with international work to Atlanta, focusing on issues such as housing justice, affordability, LGBTQ rights, and homeless outreach.
There is potential for a historic wave of LGBTQ elected officials in Atlanta during this election cycle. In addition to Liliana, four other Victory-endorsed candidates are running for local government. They include: Cathy Woolard, Mayor of Atlanta; Alex Wan, Atlanta City Council President; Kirk Rich, Atlanta City Council, District 6; and Josh McNair, Fulton County Commission, District 4.
