Rep. Mike Colona has won his primary election for Missouri State House of Representatives this evening advancing him to the general election in November. Colona is one of three openly LGBT members of the Missouri state legislature.
Colona represents part of St. Louis City (District 80) in the Missouri House of Representatives. In addition to his legislative duties, Colona is an attorney. He also has served as an adjunct professor of criminal justice for the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
Colona is a past board member for the St. Louis Effort for Aids, an ex-officio board member for the Grand Oak Hills Neighborhood Association and a member of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys. He also served as president of the Truman State University Alumni Association. He also holds the distinction of being one of only three Missouri Legislators to be featured on The Daily Show with John Stewart.
A 1987 graduate of Fox High School in Arnold, Colona received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Truman State University in 1991. He received his J.D. from St. Louis University Law School in 1994.
