National LGBTQ+ organization backs Marni to be the first Congressmember to represent North San Diego County and Palm Springs in Congress
SAN DIEGO, CA — Today LGBTQ+ Victory Fund – the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ+ people to public office – endorsed Marni von Wilpert for Congress. The endorsement follows Equality PAC and Equality California endorsing Marni, and signals a growing consensus amongst LGBTQ+ organizations that Marni is best positioned to flip this must-win seat blue. A former civil rights attorney in the Deep South and labor attorney for the Obama administration, Marni has spent her career fighting for equality.
“LGBTQ+ Victory Fund is pleased to endorse Marni von Wilpert for California’s 48th Congressional District,” said Evan Low, President & CEO of LGBTQ+ Victory Fund. “Marni’s a proven fighter for equality – protecting the rights of people living with HIV and AIDS as a civil rights attorney in the Deep South, and ensuring every American can live freely. We are confident that Marni is the best candidate to defeat Darrell Issa and flip this must-win seat to take back the House in November.”
“I’m honored to have the support of the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund in our fight to beat Darrell Issa,” said Councilmember Marni von Wilpert. “As a civil rights attorney in Mississippi I saw firsthand the importance of having strong LGBTQ+ advocates to fight for our community as we fight for equality for all Americans. As MAGA extremists fight to pull back the progress we’ve made, I’ll be on the frontlines advocating for our community.”
LGBTQ+ people remain severely underrepresented in government nationwide – holding less than .26% percent of elected positions despite representing at least 9.3 percent of the U.S. population, according to LGBTQ+ Victory Institute. As an out LGBTQ+ leader, von Wilpert will be an unwavering voice for equality in Congress.
Victory Fund will promote von Wilpert’s endorsement among its hundreds of thousands of supporters nationwide. More information about Victory Fund can be found at victoryfund.org.
