Washington, DC – Today LGBTQ Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office, endorsed Ron Galperin for California State Controller. He currently serves as the Los Angeles City Controller and is the first out LGBTQ person ever elected citywide in Los Angeles history.
Galperin would be one of just two out LGBTQ people serving statewide in California. Ricardo Lara, who serves as California Insurance Commissioner, is currently the only out LGBTQ person serving statewide.
Mayor Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ Victory Fund, released the following statement about the endorsement:
“We are proud to endorse Ron and support his historic campaign. A son of immigrants and the first out LGBTQ person ever elected citywide in Los Angeles, he has the deep experience and political grit to get things done for all Californians. We are confident he will leverage the community trust he’s built to enact good public policy and be a strong pro-equality voice across the state.”
Galperin released the following statement about the endorsement:
“LGBTQ representation is key to advancing equality. The training and endorsement I received from the Victory Fund helped to elect me City Controller in Los Angeles, and I’m grateful to have earned the endorsement and support of Victory Fund in my race to be elected California’s first out-and-proud State Controller. I look forward to working together to continue creating a future that is more truly inclusive and equitable.”
Victory Fund named Galperin a Game Changer candidate, a designation given to congressional and statewide candidates in history-making races, that comes with additional support and services from LGBTQ Victory Fund to ensure they win on Election Day.
