Washington, DC – Today LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ+ leaders to public office, endorsed Tammy Baldwin for U.S. Senate. This is Victory Fund’s first endorsement of the 2024 election cycle.
“Tammy perfectly embodies what we mean when we say ‘representation matters.’ Whether on the U.S. Senate floor or behind closed doors, she does not back down. Not only has she been a national voice against rising homophobia and transphobia, she led the charge to pass the Respect for Marriage Act which will go down in history as a landmark piece of pro-LGBTQ legislation. Her success is a testament to the respect and trust she has earned from colleagues on both sides of the aisle. We are confident she will be a firewall against anti-LGBTQ and anti-choice legislation moving through Congress and that she will continue fighting tooth and nail for all Wisconsinites and the nation’s LGBTQ+ community. We are proud to be in this fight with her,” said Mayor Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ+ Victory Fund.
“I’ve counted on Victory Fund in every race I’ve run since I ran for the Wisconsin State Assembly. I’m honored to have their endorsement once again and I’m proud to stand with them in the fight for freedom and equality for all,” said Senator Tammy Baldwin.
Senator Baldwin previously made history in 2012 when she became the first out LGBTQ+ person ever elected to the U.S. Senate. In 1998, she made history as the first out LGBTQ+ woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. She is also the first out LGBTQ+ person ever elected to the Wisconsin state legislature.
