Washington, DC – Today, LGBTQ+ Victory Fund welcomed former Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot to its Board of Directors. Lightfoot was Chicago’s first out mayor, serving from May 2019 to May 2023.
LGBTQ+ Victory Fund is the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ+ leaders to public office. President and CEO Annise Parker released the following statement:
“We’re thrilled that Mayor Lightfoot has chosen to join our board and lend her time and talents to growing LGBTQ+ representation in government. Mayor Lightfoot’s experience as mayor of America’s third largest city will be an invaluable contribution to our board. Her decision to join us reflects her deep commitment to advancing equality for the LGBTQ+ community.”
Mayor Lightfoot released the following statement:
“Serving on Victory Fund’s board brings me great pride,” said Mayor Lightfoot. “Victory Fund played a critical role in my election as mayor, so I know first hand the vital role they play in giving LGBTQ+ candidates the support and resources they need to succeed. I look forward to joining in this important work with Mayor Parker, Board Chair Wade Rakes, the board and staff to build power and representation for our community.”
Prior to her election, Mayor Lightfoot served as senior equity partner in the Litigation and Conflict Resolution Group at Mayer Brown. Before that, she was President of the Chicago Police Board and Chair of the Police Accountability Task Force. Among other prominent roles in the city, Mayor Lightfoot also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. She has been a resident of Chicago since 1986.
Since leaving office, Mayor Lightfoot has served as a 2023 Senior Leadership Fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health where she is teaching a course on leadership and key decision-making in public health.
