Low has served as a State Assemblymember and Mayor of Campbell
WASHINGTON – A recount that concluded Wednesday shows Assemblymember Evan Low advanced in the March 5 primary election to fill U.S. Representative Anna Eshoo’s seat in Congress, taking the second place spot by five votes. California’s 16th Congressional District includes much of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.
Former Houston Mayor Annise Parker, President & CEO of LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, released the following statement:
“LGBTQ+ Americans and AAPI Americans are woefully underrepresented at all levels of government – including Congress – and Evan’s primary performance is a major milestone to celebrate. Evan Low’s strong showing in this multi-candidate primary proves that he’s earned the confidence of Silicon Valley voters based on his long record of service to this region. Not only is Evan’s victory a testament to the excellent campaign he ran, it’s a sign of the excellence his constituents can expect from him as their voice in Washington. Low is a longtime LGBTQ+ Victory Fund endorsed candidate who served as mayor of Campbell before winning the election to represent District 26 in the California State Assembly in 2014. With a victory in November, he’ll be the third out LGBTQ+ official representing California in Congress.
