Washington, DC – Today Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office, endorsed Governor Kate Brown in her 2018 reelection race. Governor Brown made history in 2016 when she became the first openly LGBTQ person elected governor in the United States — and has since worked to protect LGBTQ veterans and ease the process for trans people to change their birth certificates. If reelected, Governor Brown will become the first governor to serve a full term as an openly LGBTQ person.
Victory Fund President & CEO Aisha C. Moodie-Mills released the following statement about Governor Brown’s endorsement:
“Oregon is leading the country in advancing legislation that improves the lives of LGBTQ people – especially LGBTQ veterans and the trans community – and that is because they have Governor Kate Brown,” said Aisha C. Moodie-Mills, President & CEO of Victory Fund. “Governor Brown made history last year when she became the first openly LGBTQ person to be elected governor in the United States, and since taking her oath she has fought tirelessly on behalf of equality for LGBTQ people and for others whose voices are often unheard. Her commitment to smart public policy has made Oregon a progressive leader and a state to emulate, making me confident voters will support her on election day. When she wins in November, Governor Kate Brown will remain a strong leader for equality and inclusion in Oregon, and that is why Victory Fund is thrilled to endorse her for reelection.”
Victory Fund will provide campaign, fundraising and other support to Governor Brown as an endorsed candidate. Since 1991, Victory Fund has helped thousands of openly LGBTQ candidates win local, state and federal elections.
