Raleigh, NC – Today the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund and Equality North Carolina jointly criticized state Representative John Bradford for blaming Charlotte leaders for the disastrous HB2 bill, which he drafted, sponsored and voted for. After saying he would support HB2’s repeal only if Charlotte repealed its non-discrimination law, Bradford shared a Facebook post claiming Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts, not the state legislature, is responsible for HB2’s passage. The statement from Victory Fund and Equality North Carolina said:
“John Bradford finally admits what North Carolinians have known: HB2 is a job and economy killing disaster for our state. Reading the political tea leaves, Bradford is now blaming others for a state law he drafted, sponsored and voted for. Bradford has made a habit of dodging responsibility for his legislative incompetence and dishonesty. While he has busily concerned himself with San Francisco football players, NC voters will remember he spent years championing expensive toll roads, protecting polluters that poisoned our drinking water and sticking taxpayers with the bill for both. District 98 needs an honest leader who understands policymaking affects real lives – that’s not toll-road John.”
