The Obama Administration last week announced the nomination of Ann Dunkin to serve as the assistant administrator for environmental information at the Environmental Protection Agency. Prior to her appointment, Dunkin, an out lesbian, served as the chief technology officer for the Palo Alto Unified School District since 2012.
“I thank the Administration for Ann’s appointment and wish her the best of luck in her new role,” said Torey Carter, chief operating officer at the Gay & Lesbian Victory Institute. “Victory’s Presidential Appointments Project recommended Ann to the White House in an ongoing effort to ensure that qualified LGBT candidates were being considered for presidential appointments.”
The Presidential Appointments Project has identified and assisted hundreds of LGBT people who have served in President Obama’s administration. Since 2009, the Obama Administration has appointed more than 300 openly LGBT professionals to positions within the executive branch, more than in all other presidential administrations combined.
