The nation’s first openly bi member of Congress, Rep. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, raised an impressive $678,000 in the first quarter of 2017. Sinema is a three-term Democrat in one of the most competitive districts in the country.
Her new fundraising totals leave her with $2.8 million cash-on-hand.
Sinema is best known for reaching across the aisle to earn support for the causes her constituents care about. Earlier this year, her bill to reduce bureaucratic barriers to healthcare for veterans passed the House.
She’s a co-chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, which advocates for pro-equality federal legislation.
