Dr. Jay Kumar is a recognized expert in brain science and behavior, bringing a unique perspective to political advocacy, leadership, and strategic engagement. As a Victory Institute board member, he applies neuroscience-driven strategies to foster resilience, optimize decision-making, and support the mental health of LGBTQ+ elected officials—equipping them to navigate polarization, build consensus, and lead effectively in today’s complex political landscape.

A sought-after global speaker and consultant, Jay advises Fortune 500 companies, public sector organizations, and political leaders on leadership, workplace well-being, and inclusive governance. He specializes in cognitive-based decision-making strategies that enhance engagement, strengthen public trust, shape long-term policy impact, and refine communication strategies to foster meaningful dialogue and bipartisan collaboration.

A former professor and inaugural Director of Well-being at Chapman University, Jay is the author of the acclaimed book Science of a Happy Brain and the instructor of five LinkedIn Learning courses. He holds a Ph.D. in cognitive science, an M.A. from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, a B.A. in political science and linguistics from Northwestern University, and an Executive Certificate in Public Leadership from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

Beyond his corporate and academic work, Jay is the creator of the “Brain-Driven Leadership” newsletter, host of “The Thriving Brain” video series, and a TEDx speaker on “How to Heal America’s Traumatized Brain”—a talk that explores the effects of collective trauma on democracy and offers strategies to heal division and rebuild a more unified electorate.
