Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Centene Corporation

Wade Rakes became Centene’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer on November 1, 2016. He is responsible for global diversity and inclusion programs including talent acquisition, supplier diversity, provider partnerships, and community engagement.

Wade joined Centene as an MBA Intern in 2010.  Prior to assuming his current position, Wade was Vice President, Business Development, Growth, and Expansion. In that role, Wade led Centene’s entry into the California and Pennsylvania markets. Wade has served as a member of the integration teams of Centene’s two largest acquisitions, Health Net of California and Fidelis Care of New York.

Prior to joining Centene, Wade served in the administration of Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. He was Senior Advisor to the Governor and Director of Public Liaison, a cabinet position. He also served as a member of the Governor’s Senior Executive Staff, responsible for policy formation, budget planning, and legislative relations.

From 2002 to 2006, Wade served in roles of increasing responsibility at Showtime Networks in New York including Manager for On Demand and Spanish Language Marketing and Special Assistant to the Chairman.

Wade earned a degree in Economics from Princeton University in 2002 and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 2011.

Wade has served on several boards including the steering committee of Princeton’s Aspire Capital Campaign, the Alumni Board of the Westminster Schools of Atlanta, the Emerging Leaders Roundtable at the Baker Institute at Rice University, the board of directors of education non-profit Homeworks, and the board of directors of Beyond Differences, an organization committed to ending social isolation among middle school students. Wade serves on the campaign board of the LGBTQ Victory Fund & Institute, has advised two presidential campaigns, and was elected a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. Wade was born in Mississippi and raised in Texas and Georgia. He currently lives in Detroit, Michigan with his husband Nick.
