The United States Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. They have ignored not only their own precedent, but have set the stage for the right to choose and the right to privacy to be dismantled.
The movements for reproductive freedom and LGBTQ+ equality share deeply linked interests and legal grounding based on a right to privacy. Abortion, gender-affirming care and with whom we have intimate relationships all rest on the principle of freedom to control our own bodies – principles the court is undermining. This ruling will have devastating consequences.
LGBTQ+ Victory Fund is the only national organization dedicated to electing pro-choice, LGBTQ+ candidates – and has been since our founding 31 years ago. With the Court turning its back on established case law and dismissing established rights, we must support and elect pro-choice and pro-equality elected officials. Electing pro-choice and pro-equality legislators is more important than ever. These elected leaders will determine what rights we have, and which we don’t, for the foreseeable future.
